Senku states there is no darkness in his time because humanity has defeated the night using science. He lights up the darkness for the first time in three thousand seven hundred years. After Tsukasa surrenders to Senku and gets his sister back, Hyōga betrays him, stating he waited for an opportune moment when Tsukasa was defenseless and leaves him severely wounded. Tsukasa would die without Senku freezing and later petrifying him. Volume 8 of the Dr. Stone manga series. Senku believes there is no darkness in his time, that humanity defeated the night using the light bulb. He uses a bamboo string to imitate a lightbulb and lights up the night for the first time in 3,700 years. With the help of Senku's newly invented electricity, Tsukasa begins to wake up from his petrification. Although, as Tsukasa starts to truly awaken, he believes he should be killed for good and that he's regretted waking up...

While at the ramen restaurant, the gang meets Gen Asagiri, a magician from Senku's time who had been sent to confirm Senku's death. Using iron provided by Ginro, Senku and the other villagers use powerful magnets to make a generator. The lightbulb is invented with the help of Kohaku, who has a secret recipe for making glass. Tsukasa eyes a final showdown, preparing a comeback. Meanwhile, Senku and Hyoga have a head-on clash of ideals, after the latter learns he is from the future. After Tsukasa surrendered to Senku and got his sister back, Hyoga betrayed him, stating he waited for an opportune moment when Tsukasa was defenseless and left him severely wounded.

Senku decides to use the lightbulb to find a way out of the cave. Meanwhile, due to rapidly aging population, Hyoga is forced to confront his doubts concerning Dr. STONE. Tsukasa surrenders to Senku and gets back his sister. In a shock move, Hyoga betrays and leaves him severely wounded As Tsukasa lay injured, Kohaku reveals that she finally found the eighth petrification victim. While Minami unsuccessfully tries to drag Tsukasa back to base, Kohaku uses medicine gotten from Kinro and Ginro to stabilize him. Returning to a nearby civilization, they discover that it's already been destroyed by Hyoga and his followers. Meanwhile, Senku reveals that everyone but him has been reverted to their pre-petrified age while Senku's body has been reduced to a six-year-old and their enemy escaped with the antidote formula.

Two months later, the kingdom begins to slowly unfreeze. One man is revived by a strange orb with a girl named Yuzuriha Ogawa, who was additionally hunting down said orb. The man identifies himself as Senku Ishigami, a scientific genius. Yuzuriha confesses that she is from 3,700 years in the future, after a sudden disaster froze all humans on Earth, resulting in the Earth becoming overshadowed by a never ending night. In order to revive humanity and fight off Hyoga's army, Senku decides to use science to rebuild civilization from scratch.

Taiju Oki, being augmented with 30 times the average strength by Senku, then fights both Yuzuriha and Tsukasa; although initially losing due to Tsukasa's agility, he gained the upper hand when he pinched Tsukasa's hand severely enough. Senku launches Taiju's weapon at him, disabling him before he can kill Taiju. Though they defeated him, they decided to freeze rather than kill him to ensure his sister would be safe. Senku then deduces that Tsukasa is unaffected because the cultural makeup of his brain was different and that there were in fact two types of people - those immune to the petrification and those who were not. The gang are approached by Gen Asagiri, who had been sent by Tsukasa to confirm Senku's death, but decides to give a false report instead. Using the successfully completed iron, Senku takes advantage of a sudden thunderstorm to turn it into powerful magnets. Using these, the gang build a power generator which they manage to convince Kinro and Ginro to operate, leading to the reinvention of the lightbulb.

Modern science has lived through a long history of darkness, punctuated by moments of light when scientists saw new ways to understand the world. Humanity has thus gradually increased its control over nature, occasionally casting off superstition and prejudice as it did so. In an unexpected turn of events, a strange phenomenon suddenly occurs known as the Petrification Phenomenon. The majority of humanity was petrified and then turned into stone statues. During the Stone Age, Senk? Tsukasa awakens after several millennia in his cave and learns that he is the only human without the "stone sickness". The teen decides to go out and meet someone else who has also avoided being petrified. After embarking on an exploration with Taiju Oki in search of others, he meets Senku Ishigami, who was freed from his petrified state five hundred years earlier thanks to being protected inside Ruri's Clear Stone. With Senku's scientific knowledge, Taiju believes he can save Yuzuriha from her petrified state. Together, with the help of their friend Kohaku, Senku and Taiju begin investigating the history behind the Petrification Phenomenon.
